Welcome, Friend! I’m Erika. Thank you for stopping by my blog. I started casually blogging in 2009. I was a new mommy and I needed a creative outlet and found blogging to be a lot of fun. I took a bit a blogging break as we expanded our family. Now, as a mom of four (three boys and one girl) I am ready to start blogging again.
I always enjoy reading about the bloggers behind my favorite sites, so I thought I’d share a few things about me so you can get to know me better.
I have four kids. My daughter is sandwiched between three brothers. Our house is loud and crazy most of the time, but I am thankful for these precious little ones we’ve been blessed with. My friend made me a shirt that says, “Chaos Coordinator” and I think that accurately describes my life!
My husband brings out my adventurous side. I met my husband in college at BYU. I am typically a pretty reserved, practical person but I liked that he had a great sense of adventure. He has challenged me to do things I probably wouldn’t have done, such as run a half marathon, go sky diving, fly in a small airplane, and eat cuisine I normally wouldn’t have to name a few. If it weren’t for him, I may never have discovered my love of Indian food!
I love to learn. Yep, I am one of those people who loved going to school. If being a student were a professional career, I would have majored in that! As it really wasn’t a choice, I majored in something I also enjoy–Marketing Management. I worked for a few years in marketing before we started our family. This blog is a fun way for me to use my business skills.
I may be known to max out my library card. I love books, especially children’s books. I have had a love a reading since I was a little girl. My family called me “Belle” growing up, as my nose was usually stuck in a book. I recently became an Usborne Books & More Consultant so I could afford to buy all of their great books for me…and my kids. Fiction, non-fiction, magazines, online articles, you name it and I will read it. My husband laughs whenever I give advice because it usually starts with, “I was reading an article the other day that said…” Our house is filled with lots of books and I wouldn’t have it any other way.
I am a foodie. The main reason I enjoy cooking and baking is because I love good food! My mom is a fabulous cook and baker and I grew up surrounded by great food. My husband also has introduced me to cuisines I didn’t grow up eating, such as my favorites Indian and Greek! I love watching food shows and most recently have been enjoying The Great British Bake-off.
I love to decorate. We bought our first home six years ago and I’ve loved remodeling it and making it “ours.” I have sewed, painted, built, refinished, hung, and designed and will be sharing these projects on this blog.
I love to travel. Traveling goes hand in hand with my love of history. Most of our trips these days are day or weekend trips. We live in Northern California and there is so much great history here. We love exploring the old gold mining towns and stepping back in time.
Life is hard, but I truly believe there is something in every day worth celebrating. I created this blog not only as a creative outlet for myself but also to (hopefully) bring joy into my readers’ lives. Daily household and parenting responsibilities can be mundane and overwhelming, but sometimes having a tip, project, activity, or recipe can make the day more enjoyable. So, let’s celebrate the day for each day is worth celebrating!
